WELCOME to the forum.  Glad to have you here.

your question has too many variables ...

overall condition of the motor/trannie

how many miles

last time the vehicle was tuned by a qualified diesel mechanic

what type of oil or perhaps just ask if you run synthetic oil

any modifications made to this vehicle that you know of

that's tip of the iceberg stuff - welcome to the ownership of a gently used vehicle - you take care of it and if you are lucky it will take care of  you

again, welcome to the forum

Solloop,

I have a friend with a diesel engine who used Hotshots - Stiction eliminator.  He swears by it and uses it all the time.  If this is regular gas engine the fix could vary from going with a thicker oil to adjusting the rockers or even pulling off the head and lapping or replacing the valves.  If it also burns oil out of the tail pipe you may also need to replace your valve seals.  Too many things it could be, sorry I could be more help.  Good luck.

Take care!
