I bought a 1954 Chevy 1 ton 9 foot as  my project.I call it "The Highlander". I removed the straight 6 and installed a 383 stroker. The floor was shot so I cut it out and welded in a new one. The 4 speed was replaced with a TH400 backed by a NP203 transfer case (Yes, I went 4 wheeler on it) The frame was cut 17" and the rear end moved forward 11" to accommodate a stepside 89" long bed. A GM 14 bolt went in the rear and a Dana 60 up front. Both were treated to brakes seals ect.. The seats are adjustable reclining buckets mounted on a custom frame with a custom center console. Shoulder belts were added for safety and for comfort a CPP tilt column with a Forever Sharp mahogany  15" wheel. The heating and cooling duties are tasked to a Vintage Air direct fit system and the door cards and headliner have been replaced with abs plastic. The gauge cluster is a custom built pod with modern gauges and an All American wiring kit has replaced every wire in the truck.I have done 99% of the work myself. From Montgomery Ward.  They have sold everything over the years.  From engines to guns to underwear to toys to TV's and refrigerators and everything in between.

Are they still around?

not the first time I've been a mod for a forum about Stacey.  he is a friend from back in the days when HE was TRUCKS! tv...

What happened to the Montgomery Ward engine?

That is a serious work of automotive art.

Can't wait until you paint it.  REGARDLESS of what you paint it.  It IS a beautiful truck

Hey Mike that is one killer truck it looks awesome! I always loved that body style & with all the upgrades you've done it is one sweet ride for sure. Projects like this do take time but once there reaching towards the completion stage like yours is it really gives you that sense of accomplishment & satisfaction knowing you did it. They all reach a point when you wonder if it will ever be completed & then you hit a few more bugs to work out. Keep up the good work! That 383 will move that truck around real good & looks great doing it & all the mods you've done really make it unique. Once you drive it a few miles & things loosen up & break in you can relax somewhat & really enjoy your hard work. Bob

Guys, Thanks for your kind words. I finished the brake lines, installed the loaded calipers and bled them with a Motive power bleeder. I put in the custom rear driveshaft too. I'm looking out the window waiting for the mail carrier as she has my emergency brake parts. I want that working for the driveway test as I still have "no pedal". I'm going to re-bleed the brakes. If that doesn't work, more parts. Could be a faulty master cylinder. That point you speak of will hopefully come soon with it moving under its own power. Awesome truck! I love the 4x4 dually theme! I saw a 1940's chevy longbed dually on craigs list and wanted it bad! It was in all original condition and running but the owner really wante too much for it! He was asking like $20K, but it was unique! I started tinkering with my Mom's 54 3100 I just replaced the fuel pump cleaned the carb and replaced the fuel! I got it running now I just need to get it running well. I am trying to decide on what route to go with her truck. I was originally thinking shop truck with a lowered straight axle and original drivetrain. But I have always loved these trucks as 4x4! How long have you been working on your project? You have made awesome progress!

Thanks for your kind words. On May 12, 2017 (the day of my 1st test drive) I owned the truck for 5 years. I started working on it on day 1. I have completed the mechanical aspect and have moved to body and paint. I am getting my house ready to sell for a move to CO from CT. so, there is a lot going on. I intend to squeeze in enough "me time" to finish the body and paint this summer. Notice I did not say finish the truck. I will always find something else to do to it. I wish I had purchase the Gears project book before I started. It will probably take me another 5 years to enter everything into it. LOL Good luck on your project no matter which way you go with it.

Hey glad to hear i am not the only one that takes 5-11yrs to build a truck! lol Looks great keep up the great work and good luck on the move! I am in process of building and moving and i just finished my 64. My wife is already giving me the look on my mom's truck and all the talk of another build! 😏 Like you said we just need a little me time.
