I'M TAKING THE FRAME AND 4X4 RUNNING GEAR FROM THE 87' AND TAKING THE BODY OF THE 57' TO BUILD MY PROJECT. LET THE JOURNEY BEGIN:     IMG_2409.jpg  IMG_2412.jpgIMG_2417.jpg

Looks like you’ve got a nice new project on your hands. It will be a really nice truck if it turns out like your green one. Best of luck with it.

Wagonman100, Thanks. In homage to the 50's, I'm going with a modern take on seafoam green and white. Metalics and pearls of course

My ‘57 ChevyHandyman wagon was originally surf green. My ‘57 Cameo is a medium blue and white, don’t know the name of the blue offhand. I don’t like the blue that much though. If I ever get around to redoing it, I will paint it a different color.

Cool project I always liked the 57 front end, but the lights on top of the fenders would have to go. A aerodynamic eyesore! LOL!

I agree. The 54' (my big green one) had roof mount running lights, I took them off and welded up the holes. I spoke with the seller of the 57' and to fit the front clip in the bed for shipping, he is going to remove the fender lights. I told him to keep them LOL

Yeah, those lights were usually on the 3/4 ton or above trucks, or ones used in commercial applications. Personally I like the second series ‘55-‘56 egg crate grille a little better. But the ‘57 is unique and growing on me. It does still remind me of a catfish with it’s mouth open.

Yes, my 54' is a 3800 which is a 1 ton. I just like the Cool factor of the old trucks. The 57' model year is iconic. I was never a big fan of 58' to 60' in all manufacturers with the 4 headlights. They are cool to look at and I have seen some very nice examples of those models but, It's just not one that I "have to have" I have wanted a 57 since high school. now I'm just a week or so away. p.s. I'm told that grill on the 57' was redesigned due to the fact that the 55' 2nd series (1st series looks like my 54') and 56's had overheating issues with the V-8 engines.

I can’t imagine the grille made that much difference. The opening is the same size and the egg crate grille wouldn’t really block much more air. I never heard that explanation before. I just figured the changes came about to freshen the appearance a bit.

Could be. That is what a guy with a 55' told me. Not necessarily a historic record LOL

Road Trip: My father in-law and I are going to pick up the 57'. I know what you are all thinking. Don't worry. He is cool and I actually like my in-laws so, it should be a fun trip. Shipping was minimum $800 for the 500 miles. Front wheel tow dolly rental $200. I don't have to drag the dolly all the way either, the U-Haul is 40 miles from where the truck is. I will take better pics and post them once we get back.
